Patrick's Story:
Families in our community need your help…
From time to time we all need a hand. Our YMCA ensures that “hand” is there for those in need.
My `Y`story:
I started with the YMCA as a youth participating in recreation and swimming classes. In my teen years I joined the YMCA Leader Corps program and worked at the Summer Camp. Once in University the Y gave me a job as a lifeguard, swim, instructor, volunteer fitness instructor. The YMCA helped me develop a sense of belonging and strong leadership skills.
Caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and inclusiveness
These are the core values of the YMCA and many of the leadership skills I developed are derived from these values. I was able to apply these skills when I accepted a position managing the Fitness Centre at the University and later as Coordinator of a Health and Research Centre while working on my Master's degree. After graduating from University, I was encouraged to come back to the YMCA by the CEO as a Centre Manager. This was an easy decision for me as I knew the YMCA was a great organization and would provide many opportunities to positively impact people in our community.
I also have renewed my commitment to my own health. Since rejoining the YMCA I have lost 75 pounds and now regularly participate in running and triathlon events. My daughter Isabella is also a regular participant in YMCA childcare and swimming programs. My wife Josephine and I are very grateful for the exceptional care and opportunities the YMCA gives our daughter to learn, grow, and develop as a child.
Josephine and I give to the Strong Kids’s Campaign so that other families can receive the benefits we have received over the years. This year I am going to complete an Ironman Distance Triathlon (3.8km swim, 180km bike, and 42.2km run) to support the Strong Kid's Campaign on August 26th, 2012. My goal is to raise $100 for every kilometer I complete during the Ironman (226km). This will ensure 100 children and families have access to the YMCA programs they need.
You can follow my journey to the Ironman and see how your donation is directly effecting the children and families supported by the Strong Kids Campaign at www.patrickashcoaching.com.

Why give?
Kids are our future. Kids can help create strong communities for today and for the future, but only if they have the chance to reach their full potential. Your donation will help support proven programs that give kids the opportunities they need to live healthier, happier lives now, but also grow into productive adults. By giving today, you can help our kids build a better community for tomorrow.
